Frequently Asked Questions

Can I really stay anonymous and get a cash reward?

Yes.  When you call 262-TIPS or 800-222-TIPS, submit an online tip, or a text tip,  with information about ANY unsolved felony crime or wanted felony suspect you will be assigned a code number.  You will then stay in touch with us by calling back periodically to check the status of the information using your code number.  We do NOT utilize Caller ID or Enhanced 911 or ask for your name so we do not know your identity.  You use your code number to collect your cash reward at a private business who will know you only by your code number.  We will never meet you or know who you are.

Whose money are you using to pay rewards?

All operating expenses of Crime Stoppers are provided through donations and fund-raising events.

How does the reward process work?

A cash reward is only available when the information a caller provides to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana results in a felony arrest. The information callers provide to us is forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement agency. Investigators tell us if the information was used to identify and/or lead to the felony arrest of the suspect(s) in their case.  Callers have six (6) months from the date of the felony arrest(s) made as a result of their information to claim their reward. Rewards not claimed within six (6) months are forfeited.  Information that is already known to the investigators will not qualify for a reward.Reward amounts are based on several factors including, but not limited to; seriousness of the crime, number of arrests made, number of cases cleared, and value of property and/or illegal narcotics recovered.

Why don't you update cases and show what cases were solved and which criminals were arrested because of calls to Crime Stoppers?

Our primary mission is to provide the citizens of Central Indiana a safe way to anonymously provide information about crime and criminals.  In order to help protect the identity of our callers we do not tell the media or others the information used to solve the crime came from Crime Stoppers.

Who owns Crime Stoppers?
